Legacy & Sustainability Grants Most Significant Change Story - GNAD: August 2024 (Original version)

Bintu lacked confidence and, like many other deaf women, did not participate in organisational meetings. She was encouraged to take part in GNAD’s women’s wing elections, but she hesitated until receiving capacity-building training where she got inspired by other women leaders who participated in the training. She then stood for the elections and won. Now, she represents deaf women at all GNAD regional meetings and ensures these meetings are gender sensitive. Teneeh also contested the same position in the Upper West Region and won. She now mobilises and encourages other deaf women to be active members and leaders within the association. The capacity of GNAD’s Women’s Wing has been strengthened and deaf women are now able to participate in decision-making in the organisation.
